Such a beautiful family! We had such fun playing and walking though this garden and orchard. This little girl is so loved, her parents are smitten. Dad is in the Navy so family is time is just a little more valuable than a civilian family would relate to.
Abriella is, of course completely in love with her parents also.
Picking apples and playing with flowers. This is one of my favorite little spots here in Mount Vernon; WSU’s Discovery Garden. There are so many beautiful little spots that all look so different. The only problem this evening was the smoke from the fires.
Went on an adventure with this gorgeous couple to celebrate their pregnancy! It was raining and foggy the whole day, but we went with it. Not long after this session we found out that they are expecting a little boy.
This little man will love exploring with his parents as he grows, especially since his dad will be retiring from the Navy early in his life!
These two will be amazing parents and their little man is going to be so adorable.
If you want or need a photographer to tag along for an adventure, I’m your gal! Rain or shine!
The more I learn about social media, the more I think video is where we’re headed. I’m not saying that I’m going to become a videographer, but I do want to start dabbling in video and figuring out a good way to incorporate it into my business. Even if it’s just slideshows in the beginning. It seems that when I post videos they get seen much more than when I post flat images. This is just my experience with Facebook, but I want to use Instagram more than I do now and I know that video, short videos or photos with animation get seen more. I hope you all enjoy the changes to come!
Such a beautiful family. We did this session in their living room with my traveling studio.
Mom and Dad are smitten and so is Grandma! There is something so glorious about having grandma there those first couple weeks. She ends up being a lifesaver.
Consider the traveling studio if you know you won’t want pack up everything and leave the house those first couple weeks after birth. It can be a little hectic those first few weeks. Especially since Mom is still healing. Just know there are options!
I’m so thankful for all the photographers that are so willing to share information and tricks! I wanted to share the Kelly Brown channel with you all if you haven’t found her already. Photographers that are forever learning like me or the aspiring photographers will be all over this! I’m always looking for new, fun videos to watch that can inspire me or teach me something new about newborn photography, so I was excited to find this channel! Go ahead, learn a thing or two from her!
The best way to learn is to do, but lets not forget that learning someone that has lived and experience what you strive to master is vital! Kelly is a pro for sure. Her images are amazing and exactly what I strive for every session and her videos are full of awesome tips!
Totally behind in my blogging, but it’s all coming!! So beautiful stuff to show off. How do I get so lucky to have such good looking clients!? <3
I have been driving by this garden for years and never stopped! So glad I stopped by. It’s gorgeous. The is UW’s Talking Garden. All volunteer gardeners and open to the public for free! This is Mishae and her guys! We got pretty lucky with the weather it was so gorgeous and the smoke hadn’t set in yet so we still got a nice golden sunset. Pretty sure the his is my favorite location now. Thanks UW. <3
To be inspired is to grow. There are so many photographers that I’ve found that have inspired me and taught me everything I know! I wanted to share some of these amazing photographers, if only for you all to have some lovely work to follow!
In no particular order here are some of my heroes in the photography industry and what I love about them and how they run their businesses…
Penguin Pictures is the closest to me, here in WA and I absolutely love following their beautiful images. They are consistent in their style and the content they post and blog. That is something that I strive to be! Check them out, the PNW isn’t too bad as a backdrop either!
Twig and Olive is probably my favorite family and wedding photographer though Sarah Beth is right there too! They also have a very consistent style in their images, which is impressive since there are 3 photographers. Their blog posts always tell a story which helps hold the viewers interest in seeing their images.
Rachel Vanoven has been a huge playing in the photography industry since, like, forever. She has so much wisdom to offer and does so flawless and with tact. I’ve purchased many things from her and am inspired by everything from her blog to her personal work!
I love Sara Beth’s work and her presests/actions, the perfect combination of matte and contrast. I love following her work, she has mastered making her site beautiful and functional. Hopefully I can have a social media presence that is up to par someday!
Sandra Hill is another newborn photographer I’ve followed for a long time. Her work is always leaps and bounds above others. Just perfection. I see her work everywhere mostly because venters want to use her images for advertisements, but her presence is huge! I’m inspired by all things Sandra Hill!
So, this is me. So far this life has taken me in many different directions, but I’ve ended up back here in WA basically where my ‘adult’ life began. I’ve spent many years here before moving back here as a Navy Sailor. This part of my life will always define me a special way. I know I would not have become who I am without having that experience.
When I was done with my service I found myself becoming obsessed with photography. I wanted to capture every moment with my kids and I wanted it captured ‘right.’ In a way that told a story and that wasn’t blurry (which proved to be difficult with kids when I was first learning ).
Eventually I didn’t leave the house without my camera. That was the only way that I really learned and I think it’s the best way for anyone to learn, by doing. Photography can be kinda nerdy, but once you start seeing what each function does in every situation, things fall into place.
It’s been 7 years since I first picked up a camera and I’m in deep! 😉 I love capturing my family and all the families that hire me. I feel so honored to be trusted with something so important as memories.
Capturing the exciting and the ‘mundane’ is all important, it’s all beautiful. It’s the little things that are so easily forgotten, the bath times, the baking messes, the splashing in mud.
Another thing that has been so awesome over these 7 years are the friends I’ve made. Other nerdy photographers! Whether you’re a client looking for a passionate photographer or a photographer looking for a friend that is just a weird as you, I’m here for you!
